**Third book in the Miranda Quinn Legal Twist series. Can be read as a standalone, but there may be spoilers for the first two books.**
Miranda Quinn is back in the courtroom working as a legal aid attorney when she's asked to represent Lennon, the daughter of a high school friend currently serving time in prison. Still struggling with guilt from the role she played in her friend's downfall, Miranda agrees to help.
The former assistant DA has given up a lucrative career as a legal talk radio host to better serve her community. In her spare time, she volunteers as a counselor for at-risk teens. It's challenging but rewarding, at least until the young women begin to mysteriously disappear. As Miranda struggles to find out who is responsible, it becomes clear that Lennon is in danger as well. As the police piece together Miranda's clues, they realize they're dealing with a much larger and farther-reaching organization than they had expected.
Miranda has faced her share of adversaries, both in and out of the courtroom. To expose the sex traffickers preying on the group of girls she has sworn to protect, she'll need to keep her eyes and ears open. But to save the one young woman who needs her most, she'll have to open her heart.
She's in for the fight of her life. (Synopsis courtesy of Goodreads)
This is my first experience with the Miranda line of books by this author, having read some of her other works that are more geared toward women’s fiction and/or historical fiction, and I really appreciated diving into her contemporary books! I couldn’t help but feel drawn to Miranda. She is the perfect example of a tough, engaging character with relatable flaws that really allowed me to connect with her while she tries to do everything in her power to protect Lennon and the other young women who are at risk and are in danger.
I was hooked right from the start. As Miranda tries to uncover the truth, it felt like I was right there with her, going over the clues and possible suspects, feeling just as terrible if a possible lead ends in a dead end, or feeling elated and hopeful if a clue ends up bringing Miranda one step closer to keeping the women she cares about safe. One of the biggest breakout characters had been Lennon, who becomes just as invested in finding her missing friends and despite having serious trust issues towards anyone who is in a position of authority, she finds a way to let Miranda in, even if a little.
I understood the way that Lennon operated. Having dealt with my own mom issues, I saw Lennon and knew just how special it was when she teamed up with Miranda in order to bring Lennon’s friends home. There are heightened moments of tension and chaos, particularly when Lennon makes a decision that puts her own safety at risk and Miranda has to race against time to figure everything out–will Lennon be ok? And what about the other girls? Will they be safe, too? It was a lot to carry, but Miranda does it as best she can.
I appreciated a moment towards the end of the book that involved Lennon, her mother, and Miranda. It dragged some raw emotion out of me and made me teary-eyed. It felt like a full-circle moment. The premise behind the story was gripping and super relevant to what we have going on around us today, and I’m really glad I’ve branched out into this author’s other genres of books available. It was so engaging!
Thanks to Gail Ward Olmsted for the book in exchange for an honest review. Purchase Miranda Fights here.
