Enjoying a Tuesday with Colette Kebell

Today Colette Kebell is here to talk about her latest novel, I Don't Do Mondays, and share some fun facts about herself.

Colette Kebell is an author of Chick-lit/Romcom, though a relatively new one and thus far has self-published her books. Her books are light-hearted, fun and quirky and even considered by some to be inspirational.  She has also found avenues to translate both into Italian (thanks to her husband), and into French, Spanish and Portuguese via Babelcube.

As a career, Colette spent her later years as a legal secretary. After a first attempt at writing many years ago (a book that still remains in her drawer) she resumed this passion a few years back, after being made redundant.  After a few book signing events and a book talk, which almost caused her to collapse with nerves, Colette now spends her time between her home in the UK and her home in France.

Colette has two adorable dogs and spends some time, when not writing and marketing her books, cooking for herself and her husband, gardening or designing various items for their home.  Amongst her other hobbies, she has also experimented with furniture upholstery, and she might, from time to time, have a paintbrush in her hand.

Synopsis:
How can Mia find happiness?

Lawyer Mia’s picture-perfect dream life in New York is imploding. Her job has become too stressful, she’s exhausted from carrying her friends and what’s up with her striking, wealthy fiancé?

But when life-changing decisions force her to move to Maine, where she’ll face her often critical father and hard truths about what truly matters in life, she re-discovers a passion of her youth.

What begins as a low moment in her life quickly pushes her to consider what she genuinely wants and leads her down a new path where she must embrace the future and let go of the past.

Will this move help Mia to fix her life, once and for all, and will she finally find true love?

What is a favorite compliment you have received on your writing?
Simple.  The best compliment I have received has been from bloggers who have read and loved my books and agreed to allow me to post excerpts of their reviews on the back covers of them ☺  Those are far from the only ones, as each review I have received for my books has brought tears to my eyes, for which I thank my readers, but those are the ones that stick out.

How is Mia similar to or different from you?
I don’t think there are similarities as the protagonist is pure work of fiction. Having said that, I worked my socks off when I was a legal secretary, so tend to write about female characters who work hard and learn from their mistakes.  Of course, there are elements that I bluntly took from people that I know, but none of them would recognise themselves in Mia either. Just a sprinkle here and there.

If I Don't Do Mondays! was made into a movie, who would play the leading roles?
That is a tough question.  I don’t write with an actor in mind to play the roles so I’ve had to search and come up with suggestions.  I think, Mia’s father, a small but very important role, could be played by someone like Hugh Jackman.  I love him as an actor and he is incredibly versatile, though I don’t recall seeing him play the role of a father, so would hope that he would rise to the challenge.  As for Mia, I think Olivia Wilde would do her justice.  Xander would have to be someone like a younger Willie Garson, who is an actor that I adore and admire.  I think he would bring the role to life as much as I imagine it could.  As for Ginger, who is a natural redhead, that would have to be someone like Emma Stone (who may not be a natural redhead, but she carries it well). Am I shooting for the stars?

What is your favorite day of the week?
Well I can assure you that it certainly isn’t Monday.  I love Fridays as it holds the promise of the weekend which is just around the corner, despite being self-employed and setting my own hours, routine etc.  Mondays to me bring drudgery…

Which TV series are you currently binge watching?
Currently I’m binge watching Lucifer, which recently launched a whole new season in the UK, but am desperate for the next season of Grace and Frankie ☺  I love the eye candy and humour of Lucifer, but probably due to my own age, Grace and Frankie hits home to me… it is hilarious and has an incredible cast.

What is the strangest thing residing in your purse or handbag?
Currently, due to my locale, it would have to be my dogs’ passports.  I usually carry my own, as well as plenty of other female necessities, but those I only carry when we are away.  Don’t get me wrong.  If I asked that question of my husband he’d delve into my handbag and probably find all manner of things in it that he considers odd… but then that is men for you… they don’t understand why women need to carry around the kitchen sink, as they say ☺

Thanks to Colette for visiting with us and to Rachel's Random Resources for coordinating the interview.
