With the cloud of the Holocaust still looming over them, twin sisters Bronka and Johanna Lubinski and their parents arrive in the US from a Displaced Persons Camp. In the years after World War II, they experience the difficulties of adjusting to American culture as well as the burgeoning fear of the Cold War. Years later, the discovery of a former Nazi hiding in their community brings the Holocaust out of the shadows.
As the girls get older, they start to wonder about their parents’ pasts, and they begin to demand answers. But it soon becomes clear that those memories will be more difficult and painful to uncover than they could have anticipated. Poignant and haunting, The Takeaway Men explores the impact of immigration, identity, prejudice, secrets, and lies on parents and children in mid-twentieth-century America.

no family secrets here, boring LOL
I don’t recall ever discovering any family secrets...at least not from my own family. I have been told a pretty serious one about my husband’s family though! 😳
Yes, there have been several which I learned about which occurred way back when I was very young. This novel sounds captivating and unforgettable.
Yes, I did.

I wish I had asked my father more questions, my mother too. Everyone do that before they are no longer around to ask them.

People in my family have disclosed secrets from many years back.
No secrets discovered, Thanks for your great generosity.
My great aunt shared a family secret after my mom passed away. I was glad to know that she never knew. I think it would have broken her heart.

I can't say I uncovered one; however, my mom recently spilled a secret that should have been surprising, yet it wasn't.
Not from my family but from my husband's family!
No, I haven’t but I’ve heard about some from other people.
