Sharing a "Cosmopolitan" with M.B. Earnheardt...plus a book giveaway

I happen to enjoy the occasional "Freaky Friday" kind of story, and M.B. Earnheardt's debut novel, Switch-a-Wish, sounds like a fun new twist. She has THREE copies for some lucky readers in the US and/or Canada!

M.B. Earnheardt is the journalism program director at Youngstown State University in Ohio, where she teaches media law, news reporting, imaging, and design, as well as advising the student newspaper. She previously published stories for academic and news publications, but Switch-A-Wish is her first work of fiction.

M.B. grew up on a small farm in Mahaffey, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication and a Master of Science Degree in Communication from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Her Ph.D. is from Kent State University.

When she's not teaching, she helps her husband raise their four lab experiments (re: kids) in the Petri dish they call "home." You can find her at her website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Side note: M.B. and I have the same first two initials, but hers stand for Mary Beth.

Chris and Amanda Claridge are that couple. They look happy. They live in a well-kept home, have three little girls and fit squarely into the roles of husband and wife.

Chris is a handsome college professor who easily charms everyone he meets. He loves his job and can't wait to go to work everyday. Amanda is a dedicated mother and caretaker. She tends to the kids and appreciates how important her job is, even if others don't get it.

Underneath the surface of this functioning family, things are unraveling. Marital problems are about to split them apart when something magical happens.

Chris and Amanda make a bedtime wish that forces them to live life as the other person. Chris must pretend to be his wife as he takes on childcare and household chores. Amanda steps out of her heels and into her Chris's shoes to tackle his job as a college professor.

The role reversal is a revelation for the couple. Neither one has it as good, or bad, as they expected.

Can Chris and Amanda make it past the secrets they have kept from each other? Will this new perspective give them the chance to find their way back to love?

What is the oldest piece of clothing you own?
I own a brown leather, bomber style jacket that I bought while I was in high school. It wasn’t that expensive and it’s a dated look now, but these types of jackets were a trend because of the success of Top Gun, and I just could never bring myself to give it away. It certainly will never fall apart. I recently pulled it out and started wearing it again.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
I’ve always had an affinity for Cosmopolitan. Not only is the fashion spot on, but the relationship articles helped shape how I am as a woman. It’ll always be a classic.

What is your favorite thing about your appearance?
I have great hair. I’m not sure how much I appreciated how great it is until I had three daughters and started to get a different appreciation for how challenging hair can be. Mine is healthy, shiny, thick, and will take almost any look I want to try.

What is your favorite fashion trend?
I like exposed shoulders. It’s usually a part of a woman’s body, that regardless of size, she can feel good about. There’s just something flirtatious about shoulders.

Which brand of cosmetics do you use most often?
I literally use almost every brand of cosmetics. I like to try new stuff, so it’s hard for me to pass up innovation, regardless of brand. I do stay true to Great Lash mascara and Cover Girl black eyeliner. I’ve been using them in combo for as long as I can remember. My husband is a sucker for the eyeliner. I put that on, I get his undivided attention.

What is your favorite book that features fashion or beauty?
I still love Sex and the City. It was, for me, a new way of seeing fashion. The New York City girl, that I first met here, will always be the epitome of what it’s like to be fashionable, not because your trying to fit in, but because you believe you deserve to stand out.

Thanks to M.B. Earnheardt for chatting with us and sharing her book with our readers. Thanks to Word Slinger Publicity for arranging this interview.

  1. I guess I would say that when I go some place, I take a lot of time to fix myself up with doing my hair and putting on makeup. I always wear something pretty and coordinate it with good accessories too.
