Ultimate rock chick author Nicky Wells writes romance with rock stars—because there’s no better romantic hero than a golden-voiced bad boy with a secret soft heart and a magical stage presence!
Nicky’s books offer glitzy, glamorous romance with rock stars—imagine Bridget Jones ROCKS Notting Hill! If you’ve ever had a crush on any kind of celebrity, you’ll connect with Nicky’s heroes and their leading ladies.

Two sets of sevens about Nicky Wells
Seven is a bit of a magical number, it appears. It’s one of the most important numbers in many religions and cultures. There are seven days of the week, seven colours in the rainbow, seven seas and seven continents, and seven (non-repeating) notes on musical scale. “Seven” features really quite heavily in literature. Seven dwarves. Seven brides for seven brothers, seven sea voyages for Sinbad… and well, there’s the unbeatable “007”.
Many consider seven a lucky number but sometimes, it’s a little more sinister. Seven years bad luck. Or, indeed, seven years bad sex!
In honour of the release of 7 Years Bad Sex (my seventh book incidentally), Melissa has asked me to write about seven things that matter to me. She gave me a choice of four themes, and I picked two. I was only supposed to pick one, but I felt inspired, so here goes.
Seven Favourite Years In My Life
For “favourite” read… formative, happy, or life-changing (or all of the above). Ready?
1972—I was born. That would have to be a favourite moment, but it’s just the baseline, so we won’t count that as one of my seven favourites. Okay?
1985—Attended my first rock concert. I stood in the front row and was blown away by the magic of one Joey Tempest, lead singer of Swedish rock band Europe. This was when my enduring love affair with all things rock (and rock musicians) began which eventually led me to write the books I write.
1991—Graduated from high school. I’ll never forget that heady feeling of freedom and euphoria, the sense of endless possibilities and the world being mine for the taking. Cue two years later…
1993—Moved to the UK, leaving behind my native Germany, my family, and everything I knew. It was the best move I ever made and, bizarrely, felt like coming home. I can’t explain it, but from the moment I set foot in that first university hall of residence (dingy though it was) I knew I was meant to be here, in the UK. Evidently it was the right move, because I never moved back!
1998—Was a really mixed and bittersweet year. I fell in love head over heels with someone who didn’t reciprocate and ended up heart-broken like never before. Roughly at the same time, I graduated from grad college at Oxford. I found a job, moved to London and found myself a little flat. Eventually I started singing in a choir and made new friends… and a lot of these events opened the way for the next chapter of my life, which probably started in…
2001 (and 2003)—I met my gorgeous husband in a choir-concert-and-post-choir-season-barbeque combo. He spent most of the afternoon not talking to me because he was too nervous to approach me. When we did eventually get chatting, we never stopped and that, as they say, was that. We got married two years later!
2005 and 2007—birth of my two wonderful baby boys. What a life changer those years were! :-D
2011—I published my first book, Sophie’s Turn, after a lifetime of dreaming of becoming an author, after seven (!!) years of leaving the completed manuscript to languish in a drawer, and several weeks of delirious (and feverish) pre-publication excitement. When it turned up on Amazon, I cried. And when I signed it (and its two sequels) with Sapphire Star Publishing in February of 2012, I cried some more. Talk about a dream come true! And now I’m on book seven… wow.
Seven Movies, TV Shows, Books or Songs with “Sex” in the title (excluding my own)
Sex and the City—I loved, loved, loved this show! ‘nuff said! For a while, people used to think I looked like Miranda, which was a lot fun! I could walk into a pub or club and this excited whisper would go up… Cynthia Nixon is in the house, look! LOL.
No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday by Tracy Bloom—A really funny romantic comedy well worth reading. Tracy is a fab and very friendly author!
"I Want Your Sex" by George Michael—You can’t be a great George Michael song. Plus my mum was thoroughly scandalised when this started playing on my stereo, so that was a bonus… (*Nicky gulps as remembers that she has two kids of her own now and is likely to get her come-uppance very soon…*)
"Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leon—A thoroughly awesome rock anthem.
Sex, Lies, and Videotape—*Nicky coughs* I haven’t actually seen this one yet, but it’s on my bucket list!
The Joy of Sex by Alex Comfort and Susan Quilliam—This relationship self-help masterpiece was first published in my birth year! I don’t own a copy, but I have seen one and read bits of it—enough to inspire me to put a copy in Casey and Alex’s hands…
"Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye—A great song that more or less sums up the essence of my book.
7 Years Bad Sex
One wedding. One curse? Disaster ever after…
A seven-years-bad-sex curse? Surely not! Yet something went wrong when rock singer Casey and drummer Alex got married on that beautiful yacht anchored off St Tropez in the south of France. Something went badly wrong. For even on their wedding night, the young couple discovers a complete and somewhat surprising inability to make love. Muddling through their honeymoon with a string of thin excuses for their predicament, the lovers defer finding a solution (and panicking) until the return to their home in London. After all, they married for life and to make rock music, not for the love of sex. Right?
But when they resume life as normal in London, all hell breaks loose. Increasingly frantic in their quest for release, the unhappy newlyweds embark on a string of hilarious and occasionally harmful antics that drives them, their band, and an assortment of random strangers to the brink of despair. But it ain’t over ‘til it’s over or, in this case… it ain’t over ‘til the newlyweds sing.
Thanks to Nicky for stopping by. She totally rocks!
Seven years and not being able to consummate their marriage? It is unimaginable.
ReplyDeleteHi Janine--exactly my thoughts! Which is why that's **not** what's happening... but I can't give away any more than that. Happy reading if you pick up a copy, and thanks for stopping by to leave a comment. :-)
