When I was about 11 and my parents were celebrating their 40th birthdays, I thought they were so old. They kept talking about being over the hill or middle-aged. Little did I know that 27 years later, I'd actually be counting down until my 40th birthday, which is still two years and 10 days away. From what I hear, 40 is the new 30. And thanks to Jenna McCarthy's latest book, this next decade of life sounds like so much fun! And I can only hope to be like her when I reach her age! Just from e-mailing with her, I know that she's really sweet and enthusiastic and I'm excited for you all to meet her today!
Jenna McCarthy is an internationally published writer, TED speaker, former radio personality and the author of several books including the brand new I’ve Still Got It, I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It: Awkwardly True Tales from the Far Side of Forty (published July 1st). Her work has appeared in more than sixty magazines, on dozens of web sites and in several anthologies including the popular Chicken Soup series. (She doesn’t like to brag, but her TED talk on marriage currently has more than two million views.) Jenna likes it when you like her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter. You can read about the time she was escorted out of her office by a cop and see her in the bathtub by visiting her website. Check out her pictures on Instagram, as well!
Thanks to Berkley (Penguin), we have FIVE copies of Jenna's latest book for some lucky US readers!
Favorite thing about summer:
I love so much about summer (long days, cooking/eating outside, beach afternoons, hot dogs, fake tans, floppy hats, flip-flops, white pants, out of town company), but I’d probably have to say my favorite thing is eleven whole weeks of not having to bitch at my kids to do their homework.
Favorite summertime food: Mangos
Favorite amusement park: I am not a fan of amusement parks. I guess Wet-N-Wild is okay in the summer, if you don’t mind paying $300 so your family can swim in a giant toilet.
Song that reminds you most of summer: "Summer of ’69" by Bryan Adams
Favorite outdoor activity in the summer:
Is drinking margaritas considered an activity?
Favorite place to get ice cream:
Those little drop-in freezers that sell giant frozen Snickers and chocolate-chip-cookie ice cream sandwiches the size of your head. I rarely order a cone or a cup when I take my kids to an ice cream shop (I swear to God I almost wrote ice cream parlor, obviously because I’m old), but I can’t resist those damned freezers.
Thanks to Jenna for chatting with us and to Berkley for sharing her book with our readers!

ReplyDeleteConsidering that milestone *ahem* birthday is coming up for me at the end of the month AND I love Jenna, I think I need this book. Songs of summer? Old school would be "These Are Days" by 10000 Maniacs. Current would be anything by DMB or Jack Johnson (summer tour staples). Or Jimmy Buffett--I am a Florida girl.
ReplyDeleteThe song that reminds me most of summer is Take It Easy by the Eagles.
ReplyDeleteMargaritaville by Jimmy Buffet
