Amy Hatvany makes a wish...plus a book giveaway

I'm so excited to have one of my favorite authors, Amy Hatvany visiting us again. Today's a big day for her because it's pub day for Safe with Me. I actually finished it late Sunday and I have to say it's her best one yet! Amy graduated with a degree in sociology only to realize that most sociologists are unemployed. She worked at a variety of jobs, that she ended up not loving, and ultimately decided to follow her passion: writing books. I can't tell you how much I recommend you read her previous four novels: Best Kept Secret, Outside The Lines, The Language of Sisters, and Heart Like Mine.

When is your birthday?
September 29^th.

What is a must-have for your birthday cake? I’m thinking it must be chocolate right? I know you’re a huge fan from your tweets and Facebook posts!

This might come as a shock, but I’m actually not a fan of cake. For my birthday, or any other day in which I desire dessert, I prefer mocha fudge brownies or a sinfully rich crème brulee.

What is your astrological sign and do you feel that it describes you?

I’m a Libra, and in some senses it does describe me. I’m always in search of balance, and I am all about loving the people in my life as much as I possibly can.

Tell us one of your favorite birthday memories.

I’d have to say one of my parties as a kid, where we played the Pickle Game. My mom would tie a string to a huge pickle, then hang it from a doorway with two kids sitting in chairs on either side of the door. Then she would swing the pickle on the end of the string and we would have to grab it with our mouths while sitting on our hands. Whoever captured the pickle with their teeth, won a prize. There was always a ton of laughter involved.

If you could help one of your characters in Safe with Me celebrate their birthday, what would you do with them?

I’d love to take Maddie out to celebrate in some way that she’d never experienced before because of her illness. Something a teenager would love to do – a concert or music festival with a bunch of her friends. I’d love to see the joy on her face.

Which celebrities do you share your birthday with?

Madeline Kahn and Zachary Levi, the guy who played “Chuck” on the TV series and was the voice of the male love interest in the movie Tangled.
