Interview by Amy Bromberg
**Giveaway is now closed**
Today we welcome author Katie Lee, and her first fiction novel "Groundswell." Since the age of four, Katie Lee has been exploring the world of comfort food. With culinary roots stretching back to her grandmother’s kitchen, she understands the value of knowing exactly what you’re eating and where it’s come from. She also has her bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism from Miami University in Oxford Ohio. This has translated into two successful cookbooks ("The Comfort Table" and "The Comfort Table: Recipes for Everyday Occasions"), and now her newest offering: "Groundswell," released in June 2011 (and re-released this summer in paperback). When she’s not cooking (or writing), Katie sits on the Celebrity Board for Feeding America, and enjoys surfing, traveling, and playing with her dog.
You can find Katie at her website, blog and Twitter.
Amy got to chat with her on the phone and we are sharing their conversation right here! We also have TWO copies of "Groundswell" for some lucky readers in the US and Canada!
Special thanks to Katie for a lovely live chat and sharing "Groundswell" with our readers.
How to win "Groundswell":
Listen to the audio interview and then tell us what stood out for you. (One entry per person.) Please include your e-mail address or another way to reach you if you win.
US/Canada only. Giveaway ends July 24th at midnight EST.
She said Nora Ephron was an influence on her writing. She liked her books and essays. (This was before Nora's passing). Nora Ephron was such an enjoyable writer.
ReplyDeleteShe sets short-term, not long-term goals for herself.

She wanted to do something out of her comfort zone and one day did. After a few lessons it turned into something she loves. I agree that in lfie taking risks can pay off. Even if it's small or big, it could mean discovering a new appreciation for something.

I really liked how the book idea came together. The author stated that her original idea was just not sticking and then out of no where experiencing something created that connection and inspiration for the story. Very cool!

I like that she wrote her creative writing in journals. and the fact that she loves chick lit author Emily Giffin (Where We Belong)is a plus.

Katie Lee wrote her creative writing all in journals. I like that she sets short term goals rather than long term. I too, see the influence Nora Ephron could have on a writer, katie Lee spoke before Ms.Ephron died. I like how she was inspired for the story that was written and published.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this chance to win:)

I love that she considered her grandmother as a mentor for her cookbooks. I think my love of baking comes from my grandmother, so I can relate!

ReplyDeletebut when she spoke of her grandmother, that got me.
I never knew my paternal grandmother, she died before my 1st birthday (brain cancer)
and my maternal grandmother died from cancer as well, just a couple years ago. she was my last living grandparent. i still have a hard time dealing with that. I called her for everything, recipes, knitting patterns, crossword help. ;o)
i follow on facebook and twitter, AND shared this giveaway on both. :o)

I really liked what she had to say about her grandmother...

What stood out most for me was when Katie said that after her divorce she was watching the surfers and just decided to try it herself. She decided to step out of her comfort zone and tried something that scared her. That is so inspiring.

It was interesting that she was going through a tough time in her life and that is why she decided to write a fictional story.
