Today, Kim Perel joins us to talk movies and celebrate the release of "Wedding Cake for Breakfast: Essays on the Unforgettable First Year of Marriage," for which she shares co-editor credit with Wendy Sherman. Kim, a self-proclaimed movie buff, as well as being a wedding aficionado (15+ weddings in a year!), is a literary agent and writer based out of New York. Wendy is the head of her own literary agency, which she launched 12 years ago after enjoying a career as a book publisher. Together, Kim and Wendy proposed the idea of this anthology, secured a book deal, and sought out the contributions of twenty-three female authors. This is Kim’s first anthology and Wendy’s first time with her name on the cover. Here’s to firsts!

Favorite proposal in a movie:
I’m going with Rocky Balboa’s proposal to Adrian in Rocky because he says, “I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind marrying me very much.” How cute is that? Sorry, I’m a film nerd--I mean, buff, so I’m a wealth of useless movie quotes.

Favorite wedding themed movie:
Father of the Bride (the original) and Bridesmaids because they each deal with two of the most common and genuine conflicts about getting married: your parents relinquishing control and your best friend being super pissed off at you about something.

Favorite wedding dress from a movie:
Well, "Wedding Cake for Breakfast" is really about not focusing too much on the dress, and instead focusing on the marriage. That said, I think what Katherine Heigl rocked in 27 Dresses for her own beach nuptials was simple and perfect.

Favorite couple from a movie:
Harry and Sally from When Harry Met Sally. I’m a marry-your-best-friend type of girl. Also, Sally is “high maintenance, but she thinks she’s low maintenance” and, sadly, that’s me. I also want to give a shout out to Harold and Maude though. Their relationship is the ultimate loving someone for all his or her quirks and for who that person truly is. I mean, Harold thinks Maude is awesome even though she’s like a thousand years old—who doesn’t want that?

Which story from "Wedding Cake For Breakfast" would you want to turn into a movie, if you could?
Ah! They’re all so different—I think Cathy Alter’s essay about losing her luggage on a one-year anniversary trip to Italy or Sue Shapiro’s about her honeymoon from hell in Jamaica would both be great romantic comedies. I’d even go on set in Italy or Jamaica to help out with shooting! No really, seriously, I wouldn’t mind...
