Introduction by Gail Allison
**Giveaway is now closed**
Linda Yellin (her real first name is Melinda, but she decided as a child that sounded too uptight and prissy), started her career as an author writing catalog copy for the Sears catalog. Like many glamorous and successful authors before her (probably), she was assigned to write copy for electric can openers and fluorescent light fixtures. She fought her way up in the copywriting world penning ads for Betty Crocker Stir n’ Frost, before landing a freelance (code for no dental benefits) gig with Young & Rubicam. Her first book is called “Such A Lovely Couple,” and most recently, she has written her new memoir “The Last Blind Date.” It’s available from all booksellers....and from us! Thanks to Simon and Schuster, we have TEN copies for some lucky US readers.
If you want to get to know Linda a little more, check out this video

Favorite chick lit novel couple:
Rachel and Dex in “Something Borrowed.” Moral dilemmas aside, I can’t wait for Rachel to get her man.
Favorite romantic movie:
“And Now My Love” (French...so already it’s romantic.)
Favorite romantic song:
It’s an old one. Barbra Streisand sings it at the end of “Funny Girl.” "Oh my man I love him so...he’ll never know...oh my life is just despair when he’s not there." Geez come to think of it, it reeks of low self-esteem. But I love it. Maybe because it’s the only romantic song I can sing on key.
Favorite place to go on a date:
Anywhere but a bowling alley. I took bowling for a gym credit in college and got a D.
Favorite moment from your wedding:
I was standing at the top of the aisle ready to make my big here-comes-the-bride entrance, except Randy was facing toward the Rabbi. I guess he didn’t get the memo that he was supposed to be watching for the lady in the white dress. Just as I’m wondering what should I do – head on down and hope he’s not surprised when I show up,or wait it out until he turns around – I see my mother lean over, tap Randy on the shoulder, and point.
Favorite Valentine's Day memory:
A scavenger hunt. I hid twelve Hershey’s kisses around the apartment…each one attached to a special treat. i.e. backrub...sexy shower. Randy found all those kisses in record time.
Best movie kiss:
Anytime you find yourself going: “Kiss him already!” And anytime there’s pouring rain. So gotta go with “Breakfast At Tiffany’s.”
Favorite romantic gesture:
Sir Walter Raleigh tossing his coat over the puddle for Queen Elizabeth. Although it might have been better for his dry cleaners than it was for Elizabeth.
Special thanks to Linda for making us laugh and say "awww" at the same time and to Simon and Schuster for sharing "The Last Blind Date" with our readers!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's memory was the first one I spent with my husband - we were just friends at the time. I was supposed to go to an art opening but got lost and instead spent the evening with him. It was such a sweet, unpretentious evening.
I follow you :)

I'm a dangerous poster when I'm home sick! ;-) Thanks Melissa
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's Day memory is when I had a Barbershop Quartet come to my husbands and my favorite little restaurant to sing to him. Or, when we went on a cruise over Valentine's Day, and discovered we'd bought each other the same card. (That was our last together, he passed that summer).

1. Please tell us: What is your favorite Valentine's Day memory?
ReplyDeleteBack in seventeenth grade, I received a yellow carnation from a secret admirer on Valentines Day. I was giddy the whole day even though I had no idea who the secret admirer was. I was never sure who it was though, whoever it was never confessed, hmph.

My favorite valentine's memory is of baking heart shaped sugar cookies with red sugar on top and taking it to school with a heart shaped book that my mother kept from last year. We all traded valentines and I got a really cute one from the boy that I had a crush on.

My favorite memories are making Valentines Mailboxes to bring to the parties in elementary school. Totally the highlight of winter, after Christmas and before Spring Break. :)
